Q&A
Do you have any favorite media? Movies, tv shows, games, etc.?
This is such a good question; it's hard to choose just one! Some of my favorite franchises (movies, TV shows, etc.) are Toy Story, Pokemon, and Gudetama. I'm drawn to the world they build and the art they produce.
Do you have any hobbies/what do you do for fun?
I enjoy learning new things. Lately, I've been exploring national parks. My most recent trip was to Pinnacles National Park, which was awesome. It had lots of birds and so many wildflowers. The atmosphere was refreshing, and the hikes were fun.
What is your research about?
My research is about evolving operating system interfaces to better serve applications in the context of heterogeneous hardware. Many classes of applications, like Vector Databases, work on problems that need lots of memory and often rely on accelerators to have competitive performance. Memory interconnect technologies like Compute Express Link (CXL) help applications build collaborative workflows that operate on large datasets. However, this requires software to fill in the semantic gap. This is where my research comes in, enabling software to make intelligent data placement decisions.
If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
Working in a national lab sounds exciting. These facilities always have something interesting to work on. After some more experience, however, I'd like to return to academia.
