Mitchell is an alumnus of the CRSS. He joined the CRSS in May 2021 and received a B.S. in Computer Science in June 2022 and an M.S. in 2024 from UC Santa Cruz. His research interests are in storage systems, carbon-aware computing, energy efficiency, and data analytics. He did his M.S. project (CarbonStream) under the supervision of Prof. Andrew Quinn and Prof. Heiner Litz, focusing on analyzing the total cost of ownership of carbon in data centers. He is currently working with Prof. Abel Souza to expand CarbonStream to simulate variable carbon intensity workloads and identify new methods to improve the energy efficiency of storage systems.
